Kiel Canal
Live vessel traffic through the Kiel Canal: how many ships are in the lane now, what kind they are, and a timelapse of the last few hours.
The Kiel Canal crosses the neck of Jutland in northern Germany, from Brunsbüttel on the North Sea to Kiel-Holtenau on the Baltic, saving ships the passage around Denmark. It is the busiest artificial waterway in the world counted by the number of ships using it, most of them small enough to make the passage in well under a day. Locks at both ends hold the canal at its own level against the tides of the two seas it joins.
