Strait of Dover

Live vessel traffic through the Strait of Dover: how many ships are in the lane now, what kind they are, and a timelapse of the last few hours.

The Strait of Dover is the narrowest part of the English Channel, about eighteen nautical miles between Dover and Calais, and it is the busiest shipping lane in the world counted by the number of vessels using it. Through traffic runs in separated lanes, northeast on the French side and southwest on the English, while ferries cross both of them at right angles. The strait is watched continuously from Dover and from Cap Gris-Nez.
