Qiongzhou Strait
Live vessel traffic through the Qiongzhou Strait: how many ships are in the lane now, what kind they are, and a timelapse of the last few hours.
The Qiongzhou Strait separates the island of Hainan from the Leizhou peninsula of mainland China, and it is the short way between the Gulf of Tonkin and the sea east of Hainan. It is about ten nautical miles across and shallow, with hard tidal streams, so large ships keep to a dredged channel while ferries cross constantly between Haikou and Hai’an. Spring fog closes it for days at a time.
