Strait of Hormuz

Live vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz: how many ships are in the lane now, what kind they are, and a timelapse of the last few hours.

The Strait of Hormuz is the only sea route between the Persian Gulf and the open ocean, running between Iran on the northern shore and the Musandam peninsula of Oman on the southern. Almost everything the Gulf exports leaves through it, so a passage around twenty one nautical miles across at its narrowest carries a large share of the world’s seaborne oil and liquefied natural gas. Inbound and outbound traffic is kept apart by a separation scheme that lies within Omani waters.
