Strait of Gibraltar

Live vessel traffic through the Strait of Gibraltar: how many ships are in the lane now, what kind they are, and a timelapse of the last few hours.

The Strait of Gibraltar is the Atlantic’s only natural entrance to the Mediterranean, with Spain and Gibraltar on the northern shore and Morocco on the southern. It is less than eight nautical miles across at its narrowest, so a ship bound for anywhere in the Mediterranean passes in sight of two continents at once. A surface current runs steadily in from the Atlantic while denser, saltier Mediterranean water flows out underneath it.
