Bosphorus Strait

Live vessel traffic through the Bosphorus Strait: how many ships are in the lane now, what kind they are, and a timelapse of the last few hours.

The Bosphorus winds through the middle of Istanbul, joining the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea and, by way of the Dardanelles, to the Mediterranean beyond. It is the sea route out for Black Sea grain and oil, and at less than half a nautical mile across at its narrowest it is one of the tightest passages any large ship makes. The channel turns sharply several times, so traffic through it is directed from shore rather than left to the ships to arrange between themselves.
