Bab-el-Mandeb
Live vessel traffic through the Bab-el-Mandeb: how many ships are in the lane now, what kind they are, and a timelapse of the last few hours.
Bab-el-Mandeb is the southern gate of the Red Sea, with Djibouti and Eritrea on the African side and Yemen on the Arabian. Every ship taking the Suez route between Asia and Europe passes through it, which makes this one of the few places where a single narrow channel carries a whole intercontinental trade lane. The island of Perim divides the strait in two, and large commercial traffic keeps to the wider western channel.
